Support
Questions, problems, or feature requests: yushihang@gmail.com.
It helps if you include your iPhone and Apple Watch models, your OS versions, and what you were doing at the time.
On iPhone
- Start / stop
- Double-tap anywhere on the screen.
- Tempo
- Swipe up or down. The left half nudges in small steps, the right half in larger ones — whichever half you start in decides.
- Scenes
- Swipe left or right. There are five: Running, Walking, Jump Rope, Strength, and Instrument Practice. Each keeps its own tempo and rhythm, so switching back and forth loses nothing.
- Settings
- Long-press to open the panel: how tempo is set, this scene's rhythm, volume, click timbre, and the three memory slots.
On Apple Watch
- Start / stop
- Tap the screen.
- Tempo
- Turn the Digital Crown, or swipe up and down. (When the watch is playing through its own headphones the Crown belongs to system volume — swipe instead.)
- Scenes
- Swipe left or right. The top row previews the scene you're heading to and a thin line grows with your finger; let go past the threshold to commit, or release early to snap back.
- Set tempo
- Long-press the screen.
While your iPhone is playing, the watch also works as a remote: start, stop, tempo, and scenes all still work.
Common questions
How do I set the tempo?
Long-press to open the panel. Three ways:
- Tap tempo — tap the screen in the rhythm you want; a few taps lock it in.
- Cadence — start running and the app follows your steps.
- Memory slots — three slots, each holding a tempo plus this scene's rhythm and timbre. Double-tap a slot to use it, long-press to store the current setup.
Cadence matching isn't responding
- Allow Motion & Fitness access: Settings → Privacy & Security → Motion & Fitness → TempoMate.
- Keep the phone on you — hand, armband, or pocket. It can't read cadence from a desk.
- After starting collection, run normally for a few seconds until the reading settles, then accept it.
- If the screen says there's no pedometer available, that device has no step-counting hardware — use tap tempo instead.
No sound
- Check the side mute switch and the system volume.
- The app also has its own volume, separate from system volume — long-press to open the panel.
- If you see "audio unavailable, haptics only," another app is holding the audio channel. Quit it and come back.
- The click keeps playing on the lock screen and in the background; that's the app's only background mode.
The watch isn't buzzing
The watch handles haptics. The faster the tempo, the sparser the buzz: every beat when slow, and only the downbeat past a certain speed (wherever you've placed the accent for that scene). That's deliberate — the taptic engine can't keep up with fast tempos, and forcing it makes it drop beats and stutter, which wrecks the rhythm. Also make sure haptics aren't muted (Settings → Sounds & Haptics).
Do my settings sync?
Yes. Memory slots and each scene's rhythm and timbre sync through your own iCloud, between devices signed in to the same Apple ID. The developer can't see any of it.
Where is my data?
See the privacy policy. In short: the app collects nothing and makes no network connections; your settings live on your device and in your iCloud.
How do I delete my data?
Deleting the app removes the local copy. For the iCloud copy: Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Account Storage, choose TempoMate, and delete.
Requirements
iPhone with iOS 26 or later. Apple Watch with watchOS 26 or later; the watch app installs alongside the iPhone app and can't be installed on its own.
